Obituary for
James Adams
Third generation Greeley resident James Riley Adams, known as Jim by his family and friends, passed away on March 31,2017; he was 90 years old. Born June 25, 1926 in Greeley to William Charles and Mary Alice ‘Mamie’ (Kidd) Adams. Jim graduated from Greeley High School in 1944 and shortly after entered the U.S. Navy.
It was his honor to serve during WWII in the Philippine Islands from 1944-1946. After the war, Jim returned to Greeley and earned a business degree in 1950 from CSCE (now UNC). On June 18, 1950, Jim married Jane Grace Wilson in Sheridan Wyoming.
He partnered with his parents for 16 years at Adams Pharmacy in downtown Greeley. He later earned a teaching certificate and spent 23 years as an instructor of business at Aims Community College, retiring in 1991. Jim was a dedicated member of the Greeley Kiwanis Golden K. Club. He loved golfing, camping, fishing and was an avid Colorado Rockies Baseball fan.
Jim valued his family above all. He is survived by Jane, his wife of sixty-six years; Children, Virginia ‘Ginner’ Adams Schell, Bill Adams (Karen), and Tom Adams (Vicki); grandchildren, Jim Adams, Mandi Schell Hurley, Jaton Schell, Jeff Adams, Jenny Adams Lopezi, and eleven great-grandchildren. Jim will be greatly missed by his loving family.
He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel; his parents; and siblings, Margaret Reed, and William.
Celebration of life for James will be held on Thursday 04/6/2017 at 2:00 pm at Northern Colorado Crematory, 700 8TH Street, Greeley, Colorado 80631.
He was especially proud of his service to his country and was honored to participate in the Veteran’s Honor Flight.
