Lloyd Seekamp, 85, of Greeley, Colorado passed away with his family by his side on April 27, 2017. The eldest of 14 children, he was born on his family dairy farm near Norwalk, Wisconsin on June 7, 1931 to Ogden Carl and Marie (Stender) Seekamp.
Lloyd began helping on his family farm at age 6, milking dairy cows by hand and by age 10 he was plowing with horses & selling vegetable seeds door to door. At age 16, he dropped out of school to help his family on the farm. A year later he left the farm for Mason City, Iowa where, at 17 he became the youngest person in the country to graduate from auctioneering school.
Lloyd was a proud member of the US Marines from 1951 to 1958, where he was able to earn a GED while serving his country in Japan and Beirut, Lebanon. He met his wife, Zola Ann Estep in 1957 and they married in Beirut on July 21, 1957. They had been married for almost 60 years.
Lloyd was very proud of his success in starting multiple seed businesses including Seekamp Seed Company which he eventually sold in 1999. Lloyd retired in 2015, after 50 plus years in the seed industry.
Lloyd enjoyed traveling, gardening, watching baseball and football and most of all spending time with friends & family, especially his 3 grandchildren.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Zola; children, Rusty (Dee) Seekamp, and Kathy (Tim) Petersen; grandchildren; Jeremy, Trevar, and Katie Ann Petersen; eight siblings; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents and 5 siblings.
Celebration of Lloyd’s life will be held at 2:00 pm, on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the Greeley Country Club in Greeley, Colorado.
