Margaret “Joyce” McMichael was called to be with the Lord February 20, 2019. Joyce was born July 10, 1943 in La Junta, Colorado to Carl and Marcella Howe. She grew up in Fowler and La Junta, Colorado and graduated La Junta High School in 1961. On October 10, 1964 she married Quentin (Sam) McMichael in St. Mary Catholic Church in La Junta. In 1969 the family moved to Greeley Colorado. She was a room mother and school volunteer. Joyce was active with her two children as they completed Greeley schools. Joyce’s daughter Wendy, went on to graduate from UNC and son Scott, graduated from CSU. She was a Den Mother and key supporter of her son and husband in the Boy Scout program. As a member of the Greeley Kennel Club, she was the match secretary that certified the kennel club to add obedience to their AKC conformation shows. She enjoyed camping in their RV’s with her family and after retirement she loved traveling with her husband in their trailer to many states. The Good Sam Camping Club along with many other clubs and originations enjoyed her beautiful smile and endearing personality, that made her much loved by everyone she encountered.
Her greatest love was her family and the friends. She was a cherished member the First Christian Church since 1971. Joyce was involved in everything related to doing God’s work through the church. A late in life amputation never changed her bright and positive outlook on her life and how she reacted to those she came in contact with. “An icon in her wheelchair” as she was known by her friends not many escaped a hug when she was in the room.
She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter Wendy Anne. Joyce is survived by her husband Quentin, son Scott, and daughter in law Lhauni; granddaughters Emily and Sarah, brothers; Don Howe from Gulfport, MS. And Carl Howe from Swink, CO.
There will be a celebration of life February 27, 2019 at 11am located at the First Christian Church at 2230 13th St. Greeley CO 80634
In lieu of flowers memorials gifts may be made to the First Christian Church (Disciples of Crist) memorial fund in her name.
