Obituary

Leonard Charles Wilson, 97, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, May 6, 2019. Born in Denver on March 21, 1922, Leonard and his beloved late wife of 59 years, Betty, were very active in the Fort Collins community and were very involved in their church, St. Luke's and enjoyed a large circle of friends in and around Fort Collins. As members of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church parish, both frequently volunteered to work on parish projects and had many close friendships with other parishioners. They continued to hold monthly dinners with these friends for over 60 years. Leonard began his career in sales at the young age of 8 selling papers on the street corner. He continued to hone his sales skills and launched several companies including Insurance, a Real Estate Development Co. and a Mortgage Lending Office. Both he and his wife worked side by side in their businesses for over 40 years and were instrumental in the redevelopment of the Fort Collins Downtown area.
Leonard proudly served his country, joining the National Guard when he was 16 and joining the U.S. Navy on December 15, 1941, shortly after Pearl Harbor. While in the Navy, Leonard served aboard the USS Minneapolis in the Pacific, as well as the USS Quincy and the USS Wisconsin. He was honorably discharged with several commendations on October 19, 1945, after which he returned to Fort Collins where he eloped with the love of his life, Betty Jane Pyke, on February 9, 1946.
Leonard and Betty were parents of Timothy Charles Wilson and the late Daniel Pyke Wilson, Sr. They were the proud grandparents of Jason Wilson, Andrew Wilson, Nathan Wilson, Dan Wilson, Jr. and Rebecca (Wilson) Baran, and 9 great-grandchildren. Funeral mass and Internment and will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and memorial garden on Friday, May 31st at 11:00 a.m.
