Obituary

Dorothy Margaret Mitchell of Greeley passed away on January 14, 2020, born July 6, 1927 in the small gold mining town of Schumacher, Ontario. Her father, Karlo Miculinic from Yugoslavia migrated to Schumacher, where he worked at the local mine. Her mother, Mary Stilin was from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Dorothy’s Slavic name was Dunshona. At 19, Dorothy moved to Montreal and worked for Simpson’s (Department Store). She then moved to Washington D.C., to be close to her sister, Geri, now deceased. She worked for the South African Embassy for five years. She loved this job, the people and the dynamic atmosphere of D.C.— this is where she fostered her love of politics. While in D.C., she met a young service man (Bud Stanley) from Colorado, they dated, married and moved to Lucerne, CO in 1954. She worked at Weld County Hospital until her first born arrived. They had five children one year apart, Rob (Carolyn) Stanley, Margaret (John) Melin, Jeff (Janet) Stanley, Kathy (Tim) Graff and Elizabeth Loucks. After her divorce she moved to Tampa, FL to be closer to her sister. She loved working for the Tampa Bay Times newspaper, the people, the fast pace environment and the local politics. She returned to Greeley prior to the birth of her first grandchild. Dorothy has 9 grandchildren that she loved dearly, Jennifer (Jared) Nelson, Amy (Logan) Zabel, Chris (Danielle) Loucks, Carlie (Michael) Weibert, Lauren Dusin, Ellen (Justin) Korbelik, Nancy Stanley, Sidney Loucks, and Andrew Melin. Four beautiful great-grandchildren, Carter, Hunter, Karis and Peighton. Dorothy will be remembered to have a great sense of humor, enjoyed talking politics, was no nonsense and had a spunky attitude. She will be dearly missed. Private family service.
