Obituary

Don “Coach” Foster, 84, of LaSalle, Colorado, went to be with the Lord on June 5,
2020 in Greeley, Colorado.
Don was born in Wray, CO to Ray & Elsie (Hulen) Foster on June 9, 1935. On June
2, 1979 in Greeley, Don married the love of his life, Barbara (Hitchcock) Foster.
Don graduated from Gilcrest High School in 1954. He worked his way through
college earning a Bachelor’s Degree and more than one Master’s Degrees in
Education. He taught, coached, and administered mostly in Weld County
including Valley, Highland, and Weld Central School Districts, and Wauneta,
Nebraska. His years teaching and coaching young adults was his calling and
provided a great role model throughout his career.
Don excelled at sports, but baseball was what he truly enjoyed. He played in high
school and later pitched for the semi-pro teams Greeley Grays and Gilcrest Aztecs
receiving an MVP Pitcher award in 1967. He coached, played and umpired
softball for many years in Greeley alongside his wife, children, and grandchildren.
He enjoyed season tickets to the Rockies and later watched or recorded their
games from home, rarely missing a game. Recently, he cherished his moments
coaching Cooper and watching him have the same love and passion for the game.
He and his wife Barb retired in 1995 and RV traveled for 10 years, wintering in AZ,
before moving to LaSalle. They were Grand Marshals of the LaSalle Parade in
2012. Don enjoyed golf and his amazing arrowhead collection that took countless
hours of searching to amass. His children and grandchildren have fond memories
of what they learned from him. He will be remembered by all for always having a
joke to tell, and his good luck ritual when he saw a Robin.
Don is survived by his wife; children, Rob (Joanie), Kevin (Sandy), Erin, Wes, and
Cooper Foster, Greg, and Terry Story, and Cheryl Munger; 16 grandchildren; 16
great-grandchildren; 2 sisters; and a large loving extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers & 2 sisters.
A Celebration of Life will be at 1-5pm on Saturday, August 8 at LaSalle Depot.
