Ann Anderson was born in Grinnell, Iowa on March 20, 1927. Ann was the only child of Will J. and Ada Swezey Nelson. She graduated from Grinnell High School in 1945 and from Kearney State Teachers College in Nebraska in 1949 with a BA in education. Ann taught in Gibbon, NE where she and Vernon J. Anderson, a fellow teacher, were married in 1950. They moved to Estes Park, CO in 1952 and to Englewood, CO in 1953. While their children were young, Ann remained at home. She returned to work as a substitute teacher and later worked in school libraries. She moved to Greeley in 2005 to be near family. Ann was a longtime member of Englewood First Presbyterian Church and then a member of Greeley First Congregational Church. She enjoyed quilting, playing card games, traveling, watching sports, and spending time with family. Her smile made each person she met feel important.
Ann was preceded in death by her son Morris R. Anderson in 1992 and her husband Vernon in 1993. She is survived by daughters Laura Brown (Sid) of Glen Haven and Julia Richard (Paul) of Greeley, daughter-in-law Carolyn Anderson Ewald (Len) of Denver, and four grandchildren: Jessica Brown, Christopher Anderson, Kara Brown, and Emily Shaw (Jhelene). She will be dearly missed. Ann was a gracious and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
A memorial service will be held on May 5th at 11:00 at First Congregational Church in Greeley at 2101 16th Street. An interment at Ft. Logan National Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Ann to the Weld Food Bank (Backpack Program on memo line) 1108 H Street, Greeley, CO 80631.
